Sunshine, Colorado, is in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains above Boulder, Colorado.  Our community  is officially recognized as census town and the Sunshine Fire Protection District (SFPD),  with a rich history in mining dating back to the late 1800's when our population soared to over 3,000 residents.  Our 130+ households became a  Special District  in 1969  with community-donated work and surplus equipment.
We are now funded by Boulder County property taxes, grants and personal donations,  and we are still a fully volunteer district.

Fire Protection
Sunshine Fire Protection District has been protecting homes and residents for 54 years.  We are a dedicated group of all-volunteer firefighters and administrators keeping Sunshine safe.

Tax dollars, grants  and donations support the equipment and structures that are the basis of our fire district management. An all-volunteer board and others manage funding and budgets.
